Asked my GF. She said it's called mutual bailment. It's where you, the bailor, entrust something to another party, the bailee. The bailee, in this case is the shop, is liable for the item during the time of the bailment.

She said she didn't look it up but she is 90% on that.

She said it does depend on the state but it's possible that they will only cover up to NADA which sucks hardcore if this guy owes more than that It's also not cut n day. Like, he needs to file a lawsuit and get his insurance company and/or lawyers involved and press the issue.

This happened to Mike 92VR4NY who got his car broken in while at the local Mitsu dealer. They robbed about 5K worth of shit. He got nothing. He never pushed them. Just took the car back.

She also reminded me she is $250 an hour. That's my girl!

Well yeah she was offered only the loan payoff amount for her car, as opposed the actual value of the vehicle by his insurance company. This forces her to use her insurance to recoup the actual vehicle value. The only way CAM could make it right was by offering the difference in values, which was not being offered. CAM only offered free labor and replacement of any modification parts that were not useable from the old car. This means she would have also taken another hit to buy back the carcass from her insurance company, along with the other hit of paying her deductible. Basically CAM had done nothing monetarily wise to make things right, only offer up free labor, which by the way costs him nothing. With as many cars as Jeff Creech has you figure he could get some cash together to settle.

I think the owner needs to consult their own attorney. Too much at stake here. I'd take them for all they are worth and destroy them all over the Internet. The actions force that reality.

My fiance and my neighbor both work for insurance brokers, I have learned a lot about the insurance these places need to have as my neighbor has come to ask me about cars before writing policies on Garages and Dealer Lots. These places have to list the type of vehicles they work on, their inventory, estimates for the parts and cars.... Basically this shops insurance, unless totally scammed out, should be set up to cover the cost of replacing modified cars. The shop owner is just trying to keep his rates from rising by only covering the cost of the car. The car owner needs to get his insurance company involved as they will know the rules and regs and get shit taken care of. A good insurance agent will handle your account even when its not on their shoulders, they do so to keep your business. Considering insurance is currently in a soft market agents and brokers are doing whatever it takes to write and retain policies.

Very Important: Your car insurance company have plenty of attorneys that get involved but their interest is them as a primary concern.

This is why I never ever EVER leave any of our vettes at ANY place. Things like window tints, wheels/tires getting put on, exhuast etc etc.........ALL that stuff I make Sean wait there at the place while its all getting done (his job is lenient for him to do this kind of thing during the day) and if it takes 5 hours so be it. I refuse to leave a high end sports car at just any place cause you know people that work there want to go joy riding or rag it out on there lunch break.

There is only one guy that I will ever trust to do any mechanical work and actually LEAVE the car there. He's a local guy. And he's not a just a mechanic type but a vette doctor so to speak owns/works on vettes only, he's a local tuner/performance type (does everything out of his home has a full lift etc...... does all the work by himself) and anyone who owns a vette around here knows him and he is well respected amongst the vette crowd. It might take him a few days to get it done cause he's a one man show .......but its quality work. Never heard one bad thing about him. Its very hard to find particular people like that around here and not just some random shop that I don't know much about.

That kind of story burns me up, as immature as this is going to sound someone would get slapped over that crap if that happened to me. IMO You just can't trust anyone these days especially if you have a nice sportscar.
