Ignition help please

[GTO Assassin]

So my car was broken into a while back, and the low lifes pulled my ignition off the column. It now just dangles inside the lower dash. At worst, I could MacGuyver it on there with some cable ties, but I have a spare 2nd gen ignition in the garage. Does anyone know if it will bolt on to the column at the right angle? (mines 1st gen remember) Any other suggestions?

im 99% sure it will bolt in. just the key release is different on 2Gs

I am scared to pull the column out as it looks like quite a job. I'm hoping someone can give me a 100% that they are the same, but I feel like they aren't.

EDIT - yes, the key release is different, and that will NOT allow me to replace the ignition barrel back to normal.

With yours being a GTO, does it have the bulge on the side of the column so the key slot faces towards you? I dunno if you've ever seen a US column, but with ours, the key slot is in the side of column.

Here's an idea. Can you get me a picture of your spare column? That'll give me some ideas to work with.

Years back, my ES got broken into, and the would-be thieves smashed the hell out of my ignition. They would have had the car if not for my kill switch. Anyway, I installed my spare steering column in the parking lot of my apartment with basic tools. It's not all that hard. Just time consuming. I'll see if I can give you a write-up once I see what you're working with.

Another thing I was thinking, I don't know if it would work or not, but you could drill a hole to allow the key release to be exposed as well. Would be a ghetto hold over until you could get your hands on a 2G "cover."
