Dented Oil Pan?

ok, just to clear the confusion of which picture came first, here they are in chronological order, lol.

i thought it was pretty clear. 1 is a pic of when you first installed the DP (no rust. melton or 3sx?) the other is obvously at least a year later. (same downpipe now with a nice finish)

ok, the pic with a non-rusted downpipe is the one from 2004. the one with the rusted downpipe is from 2007.

dciv, not possible unfortunately. i'm in florida. car is in ohio. ips is supposed to email me some pictures of the pan next to a new one, because according to them they look the same. i'll post them up when i get them.

ive seen a brand new oil pan (and have my 97 for reference) and its clear you have a dent in the newer pic. would you like a pic of my 97s pan?

ok, so i get a call from them today. they agree that it is "slightly dented". but mike believes it will not cause any issues, especially since i have good oil pressure (which i do, better than before the motor went south two years ago). they did tell me that if the motor dies due to oiling issues, they will fix it. albeit i'll be in florida, it would have to get there somehow. also, mike mentioned that if the pan were to be taken off, that there would probably be re-sealing issues and it would likely have oil leaking problems. i don't know how true that is, but felt it worth mentioning. also, he said he didn't feel like there was a need to take a picture of it and send it to me. lol. i asked him to send me one anyway, for my personal reference. but on a good note, it should be getting tuned today! and probably tomorrow and then be done!

Guess I will fix it after I get the wheel bearing changed.

Get that in writing. Signed and dated.

It will take them less than an hour worth of labor to get the pan off - tops. Figure another 30 minutes to get it cleaned up and hammered out, and then 30 minutes for reassembly. Realistically, that should be well under two hours of the mechanics time, and maybe cost them $.50 in gasket material. I just don't understand why they would be willing to chance a rebuild when they can correct the problem so easily.

um, its cake i've done many pan jobs. Pull downpipe, xcase, 1 subframe(5bolts), starter, starter bracket, flywheel guard, oil returns, then pan. Then use a blade and get the gasket material off then a wizzer to get the rest off and make it smooth(should be silver in color when clean) then use degreaser or brake parts cleaner to clean the pan and wash it out thoroughly. Then apply the right stuff(black kind) and reapply the pan.

right, i agree with you guys. mike quoted me 4 to 5 hours of labor to do the whole job. and i really don't agree with their whole "re-sealing" idea, but when they are as adament over the phone as they are, it really is just aggrevating. it really seems they really don't want to do this. and i'm just so fed up at this point i want it just done. i have lists and lists from the last two years of things that weren't done that should have been, (and wouldn't have been corrected if i didn't catch them), parts not installed, a motor that failed (due to their previous engine builder, spun all main bearings with just a few hundred miles on the motor), wrong parts on the car, etc etc etc. just want this done. when i get it back maybe i'll just get a super duty plunger and suction the dent back out, lol.

Tell them if they don't want to do it, get a quote of a nearby mechanic that will do it, and charge them. Maybe they just don't want the car there anymore. Either way, this is some poor service by IPS.
