Honda producing hydrogen car next year

Post by Daetlus »

Honda has decided to go forward with the production of their new fuel cell car the FCX Clarity:

Currently, regardless of the lack of facilities to refuel, they are going to be offering the car for 3 year lease at $600 a month to certain Southern California customers next year.

By creating a much smaller power train, they were able to increase the range of the vehicle to 270 miles with 68MPG.

A step in the right direction?

I saw an episode of 30 days where one of the guys drank a glass of water that was filled from the tailpipe from a hydrogen car. No thanks. haha

The early adopters IMO would likely be tree huggers that think a car is a required evil. We aren't talking about car enthusiasts.

Tree hugging car enthusiasts buy these

100% electric, 0-60 in under 4 seconds, 2 cents a mile. To compare, I think I get around 25 cents a mile...lol

I thought that was the Tesla Roadster as soon as I saw it. My only experiences with which were on Facebook, of all places.

No, they are Hydrogen fuel cell cars. While water does have Hydrogen, which can be extracted by electrolysis, this car does not have the ability to perform electrolysis.

The last conspiracy theory I read said that Shell holds some kind of authority over the introduction of alternative fuel cars on a grand scale. In other words, Shell has nationwide authority (given by the federal government) to say hydrogen/etc cars can't be released to the public (except on small scales or something). Oh, and if you argue that hybrid cars are "alternative fuel", look at the mpg ratings of some of 'em...pretty pathetic, really. Hell, my old '85 CRX used to get 45mpg on the highway :p

I never saw any confirmation of this conspiracy theory, though. Which probably backs up my theory that it's just horse shit..but still..I wonder why, with today's technology, we still drive cars with a mere 28mpg.
For fuck's sake, we've put men on the moon, bigger boobs on women, and made someone as stupid as Paris Hilton really really famous..
but we can't produce a 100mpg car? nonsense.
