I have to say it, I fully believe that the GT-R has lived up to its hype.

I would have to agree. But I still don't really like the way it looks.

It's still just press releases and Nissan orchestrated PR events.I have to say it, I fully believe that the GT-R has lived up to its hype.
The real test is when they start loaning out press cars for the auto mags to test on their own terms, and to see what the owners think.
I mean, just imagine what would happen if they found out it has something ridiculous like a weak transfer case or something

Just heard today that the 'ring times were on shaved R-compound tires, so you can't compare it to the 'vette, viper, F430, etc. Time with more appropriate tires (non r-compound) was 7:46.

I've also read that was a Japanese translation error, and they were in fact stock tyres. I'm not sure what's true, you'd think Nissan would make it clear.
Are you positive the Z06, Viper, Ferrari times are on stock tyres?

Positive that Z06 and Viper are, in fact I talked with GM about the Z06 times at the 'ring...ferrari has multiple times so it depends on what you want to look at.

Ferrari uses really gooey stock tires (PZero Corsa or something) from the factory, that much Im certain. they dont use unidirectional ass tires like most car manufacturers. the Z06 was on OEM tires, and im pretty sure the Viper does too.

Fair enough.
I wondered how the GT-R could be faster than the Z06 around the 'ring, it doesn't add up.
I can't wait until the magazines compare the GT-R and Z06, I think the Z06 will win out mostly but not by as much as some people think.
Both bargain's in my opinion. If I had the money to spend it'd be a difficult decision, but I think I'd still take the GT-R.

I think the GTR is going to post some impressive numbers versus the Z06 for sure. It will be pretty close comparison on all aspects. FOr me, though, the 700lbs difference in weight is all the difference I need. Regardless of how fast a car is, it just isn't fun when it weighs so much.
The GTR can run good times on the 'ring because the ring is a huge course that doesn't have a long succession of overly tight turns and has plenty of straight aways. I think on something a bit smaller and more technical the Z06 would win out mostly due to it's lighter weight.

I can't wait to see where the weak links are on this thing.
On paper it's everything I wished the VR-4 could have been.
Pending real-world results, I will have one.
